Dr. Noelle Nelson

Harry Young, at 85, completed a map of Scotland composed entirely of rocks he’d collected all over the country. Harry had always appreciated rocks of varying kinds, and as he traveled for work, he found himself collecting rocks – a few here and there – wherever he went. Knowing of his hobby, a work colleague offered him some unusual stones, and with that, he joined the Glasgow Amateur Geology Society. Soon after, Harry got the idea to make a map using the stones, placing them in the area they’d originally come from. The project took 30 years, and once done, was framed by his family in honor of his 85th birthday. Now that’s a righteous birthday present!
